Balthasar LABER⁽⁵⁴²⁹⁾ was born between 1732 and 1764 in Pennsylvania.⁽⁵⁴³⁰⁾ Author John Slabaugh says it is "abundantly clear" that this Balthasar is NOT the Baltzer in the direct ancestral line, but would have been our Baltzer's first cousin. It is suggested that independent confirmation in Lancaster Co. take place to further document this claim. "Johann (Hans) Wendel Lauber / Laber Land Warrant Claim of March 26, 1746, for his new home in America, near Clay, Pennsylvania. Also some warranting neighbors next to him. To find it, start from Clay, Pa. square; go east to Clearview Road. Turn north-east to first farm on right occupied by J. Glenn and Mildred Wissler, his wife."
On page 9 of the manuscript, Melvin Lauver states that the farm is "presently owned by J. Glenn Wissler and consists of 132 acres. Glen Wissler's son's farm, just south of him was originally a part of this tract. The house....was built in 1814, just one year after the building of Old Zion Church. However, Wendel's grandson George, built the house. There must have been a preceding house occupied by the Wendel Laber family. That too, may have been a log cabin, as was the first Old Zion Church building and many houses of the neighboring farmers." He was buried about 1762 in Brickerville Lutheran and Reformed Church, Lancaster Co., Pa..⁽⁵⁴⁷³⁾ His home was in Clay Township. He had an estate probated on 27 Dec 1762 in Lancaster Co., Pa..⁽⁵⁴⁷⁴⁾ He was born bap 10 Mar 1701 in Steinsfurt Parish, Northern Kraichgau Region, Germany.⁽⁵⁴⁷⁵⁾ Author John Slabaugh states that, despite some earlier research claiming that Hans Wendel Laber was the father of immigrant Baltzer, he was not. Slabaugh also cites the record of the wedding of Baltzer and Elizabeth Baumann recorded by Pastor Johannes Waldschmidt as showing Hans's brother Georg as being the father.
