As for Mt. Hope, it is a solely-Catholic cemetery. It is linked to St.
Mary's of the Barrens Catholic church, as well as the St. Mary's
Seminary, since a large number of clergy burials are in the cemetery.

It is located to the west of St. Mary's Seminary, on Highway T, about 1
mile off of Highway 51. I've been there quite often, and will go again
next month. If you'd like a photo of her grave, I can get one for you.

It is part of the St. Vincent de Paul parish and you would have to contact their office for bu rial records. However they do all of the research and do not allow people to use the records . You could write to them at Parish Center, 1010 Rosati Ct., Perryville, MO 63775.

Here's the history that is listed in the cemetery book:

"IN ABOUT 1830 THE SITE WAS SELECTED FOR THE PARISH GRAVE YARD, NOW KNOWNAS MOUNT HOPE. IN T HE EARLY DAYS NOBODY HAD A LOT, THE GRAVES WERE DUG IN ROTATION ONE AFTER ANOTHER IN ROWS.

NOT MUCH WAS DONE TO IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF THIS BURIAL GROUND UNTIL THE MOUNT HOPE CEMETERY ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED. THE INCORPORATION PAPERS FOR THIS ASSOCIATION WAS (sic) SIGNED ON A PRIL 23, 1907. MEMBERSHIP AT THIS TIME COST BUT A DOLLAR A YEAR.

OLD PIONEER CEMETERY or ST. MARY'S OF THE BARRENS CEMETERY
This cemetery was also the site of the ST. Mary's of the Barrens Church
from 1807 until 1937 when most of the tombstones were moved to the new
Mount Hope Cemetery.
(Sarah is not listed in this portion of the book; she was in the regular
listings of Mt. Hope.)

(There were also a lot of deaths listed that were pulled from the county
court records. These folks were supposed to be buried at Mt. Hope or St.
Mary's/Old Pioneer, but no stones have been found. It's possible that
some of them are still at the old St. Mary's site, since no one knew
quite where the bodies were located and they could not be moved when the
rest of them were moved. Again, Sarah was not listed in this portion.) She died on 18 Apr 1884 in Perry Co., Mo..(9391) Sarah Jane died just five days after her son James was married.
