Shortly before death of Senator John Heinz in aviation accident, the senator's office was assisting in the investigation of a possible mission involving Edward while in the army to South America to search for Nazi war criminals and investigate rumors that Hitler was still alive (no one believed he was alive, but an official secret mission was undertaken to obtain certain facts and underlying reasons for such rumors. The senatate staff investigation into finding records of the mission ended with the senator's death. There was also an incident in Alabama in which Edward identified and apprehended a French national engaged in espionage for the former Soviet Union. All offices of the government have denied the existence of any records despite other related incidents becoming public knowledge. Last attempt to secure records was in 1987.
