She appeared on the census on 10 Oct 1850 in Antis Township, Bellwood, Blair Co., Pa..(4526) Census of 1850 She was a Housekeeper on 28 Jul 1870 in Logan Township, Altoona, Blair Co., Pa..(4527) (4528) She appeared on the census on 28 Jul 1870 in Logan Township, Altoona, Blair Co., Pa..(4529) She resided Empfield Farm, Juniata in 1879 in Juniata, Blair Co., Pa.. (4530) The Empfield farm was the land from which Juniata and the Juniata Railroad shops were carved. She died on 3 Sep 1908 in Juniata, Blair Co., Pa.. (4531)(4532) She resided 209 Fifth Street on 3 Sep 1908 in Juniata, Blair Co., Pa.. According to research by Robert Barnhart, Catharine and daughter Sarah Empfield Brawn, both widows, were living at this location around 1898/1899. Mother's first name is an assumption. See source #21.
Census of 1870 shows first name spelled Catherine.
Her death certificate is very difficult to read. The name of her father is barely
legible, but it appears to be Hartzell. The mother's first name is also difficult to
read.

Here is the photo. My copy is actually a photocopy that was sent to me
by a distant cousin in Altoona. However, please make a note that I have
not verified the actual date this picture was taken and that the
alignment with the newspaper article of 24 October 1907 disagrees with
what was written on my copy to identify the people in the picture. If
you consider the ages of the people in 1907 and look at the photograph,
it matches, as does the overall description from the news article. If
you consider the news article to match the photograph, then the people
would align as follows:

Seated: Catherine Hartzell Empfield, age 91, born 5 Oct 1816.
Left to right standing:
Sarah Empfield Brawn, age 64, born 22 Sept. 1843, d/o
Catherine
Minnie Brawn Tanneyhill, age 40, born 13 Feb 1867, d/o
Sarah
Mrs. S. E. Tanneyhill Brightbill, age 21, born 15 Sept.
1886, d/o Minnie
Elmer Wilson Brightbill, age 3 mos., born 15 July 1907, son
of Mrs. Brightbill

The handwriting on my copy identified the people differently. If this
picture was taken in 1907, it is unlikely that the handwriting is
correct. The only thing that would change my opinion would be to
discover that the photograph was taken much later. Perhaps, if there is
photographic expert in the group, they could voice an opinion based on
the clothing style and appearance of the photograph quality. The people
identified were as follows:

Seated: Sarah Empfield Brawn
Standing, left to right:
Minnie Brawn Tanneyhill (it is unlikely she would appear this old
at age 40), d/o Sarah
Mary Abigail Brawn McCracken (born 29 Feb 1872)
Beatrice (no last name or relationship recorded on picture)
Grace (assumed to be baby daughter of Grace in this photo)

Any opinions if this picture is consistent with those taken circa 1907
would be appreciated.
