bullet Joseph INFELD was born about 1732 in Strausburg, Germany. (5033)(5034) (5035) birth year according to Edward Wurtz. He immigrated on 22 Nov 1752 to Philidelphia, Pa.; 'Phoenix', Capt. Ruben Honor, sailed from Rotterdam. (5036) He died after 1782 in Pennsylvania. (5037) York County may be a good place to start to find records.

From Edward J. Wurtz gedcom file:

Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Vol. 1, pg. 508. (Film #1035683, item 5)
1759 York Co. PA Church Records of the 18th Century, Canadochly Union Church,
pg. 108 History of York County, PA, pg. 644 (Revolutionary Soldiers of Fairview Twp.)

The above listed book shows passenger lists of German emigrants arriving in
the Port of Philadelphia, PA between 1727 - 1808. Joseph Infeld (Emfield?) was listed as ta king an oath of allegiance (to the British Crown, in the American Colonies) on the 22nd of No vember, 1752. This was a common practice for all arriving foreigners. He arrived on the Ship "Phoenix", with Captain Ruben Honor. The ship came from a port at Hamburg, Germany, arriving at additional ports in Rotterdam (Holland) and Cowes (England) enroute to America. No other family members were listed, although they only required the males over 16 years of age to take the oath. (Some passenger lists are more detailed and list families, including children an d wives, plus ages. This one does not.)

From the book Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Vol. 1 it states:

Pg. X1iv: Item #11. Initials and marks of persons who could not write have
been enclosed in round brackets ( ), to distinguish them from the signature
made by the clerk.

Pg. XXXIV: Beginning with the year 1752, nine ships started on various years
from Hamburg, Germany, and from there went either to Cowes or to Plymouth.

Pg. XXIV: Of the 324 ships arriving between 1727 and 1775, we have the
Captains' lists of only 138 ships. (Additional Note: According to the book,
emigration all but stopped during the American Revolutionary War. That is why there is a gap between 1775 & 1789.)

THERE MAY BE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THIS JOSEPH (INFELD) AND JOSEPH EMFIELD/EMPFIELD (RIN 760) . HE MAY BE HIS GRANDFATHER, WITH VINCENT BEING THE FATHER. (Vincent's son is born about 17 83, Joseph Emfield is born about 1799. Still a large gap.)

Joseph Infield was a PA German Pioneer who immigrated through the port of Philadelphia, PA o n 22 Nov 1752 [Strassburger: PA German Pioneers, pg.508, spelled Infeld]. His DOB is estimate d based on this date. He appears to be the first of this surname to immigrate to America; and , the only Infield to immigrate prior to 1776. It also appears that he was single when he arrived at Philadelphia. No 'X' appeared between his first and last name, indicating he was capable e of signing his name.

The ship 'Phoenix' that sailed from Rotterdam, Holland (Netherlands) did not have a passenger whose first name was Christina, thus it appears that his wife did not travel with him.

He was married to Christina WINTER after 1752.(5038) (5039)(5040) Children were: Georg Ludwig EMFIELD.
